Developed by Leslie Greenberg and Rhonda Goldman, Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT-C) is one of the world’s most researched, evidence-based approaches to couples’ therapy. Building on the pioneering work of Leslie Greenberg and Sue Johnson (1988), this advanced four-day certification training is designed to deepen therapists’ skills in helping couples resolve conflict, heal emotional injuries, and create stronger, more secure relationships.  Â
Designed for EFT-C therapists, supervisors and trainers this institute focuses on advanced interventions for working with complex relationship dynamics. In addition to attachment, EFT-C addresses identity needs—including power, self-esteem, shame, and vulnerability—providing a comprehensive framework for understanding and transforming relationship distress. Â
Participants will deepen their ability to:Â
- Work with challenging clinical presentations, including highly escalated couples, therapy impasses, blocks, and interruptions.Â
- Treat complex issues such as trauma, power struggles, dominance, and emotional injuries.Â
- Apply the Forgiveness Treatment Approach (Greenberg, Warwar, & Malcolm, 2010) to facilitate healing following betrayal and significant relationship injuries.Â
- Facilitate emotional processing that transforms destructive interactional cycles into secure patterns of connection.Â
- Work effectively with attachment- and identity-based emotions, including anxiety, shame, anger, sadness, longing, and struggles with self-worth.Â
- Conduct effective enactments, incorporate individual sessions, assign therapeutic homework, and implement relapse prevention strategies.Â
- Address physical intimacy concerns, foster positive emotional connection, and promote partners’ capacity for self-soothing.Â
This highly experiential training combines brief lectures, extensive clinical video demonstrations, collaborative case discussions, supervised small-group practice, live coaching, modelling, and feedback to help participants confidently integrate advanced EFT-C interventions into their clinical practice.Â
No prior couples training is required.
Who should attend: Licensed psychologists, registered psychotherapists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, counsellors, and other regulated mental health professionals. Graduate students are also welcome.

Refund & Cancellation Policy for Certified EFT Trainings
Cancelling 30 days or more prior to the start of a training:
- Refund:Â Full refund will be processed, minus a $200 administrative fee
or
- Transfer:Â Full payment will be transferred to a future Emotion Focused Therapy Training Institute. You may transfer your payment to another EFT training institute one time.
Cancelling after 30 days prior to the start of a training:
- Refund:Â No refund
- Transfers: No transfers to another EFT Training Institute
The Centre for Psychology and Emotional Health has the right to cancel or reschedule any Emotion Focused Therapy Training Institutes. In the event that the Centre for Psychology and Emotional Health needs to cancel or reschedule an upcoming EFT Training Institute, you will have the option to either receive a full refund, or transfer the full training fee to another available training.
